Abschied in Amsterdam

Grace:

Jolina and I had an internship at a physical therapy office in our town, Lindern. I went with her to the internship for 4 days and we learned a lot. We would meet with people who needed help strengthening their body. This included everything from needing help with their back, hand, elbow, knee, or shoulders. We got to learn everything the first few days, and by the end of the week, we were even able to lead classes in the swimming pool. I think this was a great start to my time in Germany and I got to learn a lot by talking with the physical therapists and patients. I am living in Lindern with my host family, Jolina, her parents, Simone and Roland and her older brother, Noah. They are a very close-knit family, and I have really enjoyed my time with them so far. They own a hotel and restaurant in Lindern, so we spend a lot of time there, eating and spending time together. Jolina and I ride our bikes to the bus stop every morning, then ride the bus to school, and after school, we come home and have lunch with Simone, Roland, and sometimes Noah. Then we rest for the remainder of the afternoon until we do something, like volleyball practice, walking around Lindern or going shopping. On the weekends, we have done various activities. My first weekend here, Jolina had volleyball games on Friday and Saturday, and on Saturday night we went to a party in Molbergen, one of the nearby towns, with friends. The next weekend, we had more volleyball games and then had a birthday party for one of her teammates. Last weekend, we enjoyed lunch at the restaurant with her extended family, went to Cloppenburg for the day to explore a museum about ancient times, and went out for dinner with a friend. And, this weekend, we got dinner with friends, went to Papenburg and learned about where they make cruise ships.

Luisa:

Liv Grete and I were in an internship at Werlte Gymnasium, to experience whether teaching might be a possible career option for her. We sat in on a variety of classes from 5th to 10th grade, ranging from English, History, German, and even a French class. I learned a lot and got my body used to routine quickly as we were waking up and getting home at around the same time as we would if we were already going to CGL. It was a good opportunity to get myself used to the school environment in a different country. I am staying with Liv Grete and her family in Lindern. We are 5 people, me, her, both her parents, and her older sister Leni. Everyone in the family is super kind and welcoming. During the week, we leave for school at around 7:20, usually with her father driving us but sometimes we take the bus. School here is much shorter than back in the US and when classes end we go back home for lunch. Most days, when we get home, we will just relax, maybe watch something on TV, and do any schoolwork that still needs to be done. Liv Grete has many activities, like scouts, orchestra and tennis. I usually go with her to scouts, but for tennis, I only go once a week. I'm not the best tennis player. On the weekends, we've done many fun things, like Schützenball, going to Cloppenburg to explore a museum, we've also gone to Berlin, and last weekend, I was picked up by family friends and went to Sögel. So far, Germany has been a great experience and I am having a lot of fun.
